Buying a Wedding Dress in Turkey: A Complete Guide for International Brides

Turkey has a long tradition of bridal craftsmanship. Cities like Istanbul and Izmir are home to skilled dressmakers and ateliers that create gowns for brides at home and abroad. Whether you live in Europe, the Middle East, the US or anywhere else, here is how to make the process smooth and enjoyable.

Why brides choose Turkey

  • Craftsmanship: Hand-finished lace, beading and tailoring are part of the local bridal culture.
  • Custom design: Many ateliers design from scratch instead of selling ready-made sizes, so your gown is truly yours.
  • Value: A made-to-measure gown in Turkey is often more accessible than a comparable custom gown in many Western European cities.
  • A trip to remember: Combining fittings with a holiday on the Aegean coast is a lovely bonus.

Ready-made or made-to-measure?

Ready-made dresses are produced in standard sizes and altered to fit. A made-to-measure (bespoke) gown is designed and cut for your body and your vision: neckline, sleeves, back, skirt volume and train are all decided with you. If you have a clear idea you can't find in stores, or standard sizes rarely fit you perfectly, bespoke is the better choice.

When should you start?

For a custom gown, we recommend starting at least 4–6 months before your wedding. This leaves comfortable time for design, fabric selection and fittings, especially if you are travelling from abroad and need to plan your visits.

How fittings work for brides from abroad

You don't need to live in Turkey to have your dress made here. A typical process looks like this:

  1. Consultation: We talk about your style, your wedding and your inspiration, in person or online.
  2. Design & fabrics: Your design is sketched and fabrics and laces are chosen together.
  3. Measurements: If you can't visit, measurements can be taken remotely with a detailed guide.
  4. Fittings: Fittings are planned around your travel dates.
  5. Delivery: Your gown is ready for your big day, collected at the atelier or delivered to your door.

Questions to ask any bridal atelier

  • Is the dress designed from scratch or adapted from an existing pattern?
  • How many fittings are included, and when is the final fitting?
  • Are alterations included in the price?
  • Can measurements be taken remotely if I can't travel?
  • How will the dress be delivered or shipped?
  • Can I see real brides' photos and read independent reviews?

Check real reviews

Google reviews and Instagram photos of real brides are the most honest way to judge an atelier. Look beyond the star rating: read how brides describe the process, communication and fit.
